PS3 vs Wii - Three pictures that say it all

If you need any practical demonstration of how things are going between the PS3 and the Wii. The Wii has been extremely difficult to find here in the UK and they sell out immediately when anywhere comes into stock. For those of you who have read my blog before you know I worked in the industry for quite some time, I worked with Sony on a few playstation games and was never impressed by the level of support they gave to 3rd party companies.
This attitude especially towards online development has now got them into the current situation. The online system for the PS3 is at best ‘a shambles’ and after speaking to friends who still work in the industry (and a few who still work for Sony) I get the feeling that Sony internally are still in complete denial and that their loyal customers will dig them out of trouble. Anyway, the screenshots tell you everything about the current market in the UK as of today.

Amazon yet again in the UK gets stock and sells out immediately. This is a screenshot of the movers & shakers section as you can see its up 9000%.

As you can see amazon now has no stock left for the Wii.

Where are the fucking games for Wii? The platform for being SO next gen is certainly not maturing too well since it’s launch. Sure it’s popular, but will this system actually get casual gamers to buy games or will they buy Wii and just play Sports?
So far the hardware sales are great. Ultimately it’s about creating a platform that people will buy games for and the Wii has not proven it’s self in that respect.
If Nintendo doesn’t get there ass in gear and get games out that really shock and awe people, then it won’t be long until PS3 and Xbox 360 do. 360 is already on it’s 2nd generation of games and nearly hitting their hardware limit NOW. PS3 developers have not even scratched the surface of the hardware, they have PLENTY of processing headroom which will allow their games to get more complex and immersive over the next year or two.
So far Wii’s trends are typical for a fad.

‘the trurth’ good to see the Sony fan boys are so amazingly articulate. But please, do continue to amuse me.
D.Vader, I agree, Nintendo does have to fill in the software gap. but if you look back the DS also had a serious lack of software at launch, the publishers are a conservative bunch at best, and they need to see success before they put weight behind publishing for a new platform. From what I hear lots of studios have very quickly ramped up new Wii development. It may take a while but it will get the software.
For the minute my Wii gets lots of usage, and the PS3 gathers dust.

I must agree with D. Vadar, I have tried my hardest to keep up with the announcements and details of upcoming games on all three new consoles, and so far I am very disappointed with the lineup on the Wii. The Xbox 360 and the PS3 are getting ready to release at least a dozen games in the coming months that have gotten enourmous feedback on their quality, but the only games I really see on the Wii getting any real buzz is SSBB. I have been debating on which console to set up next to my PS3, a 360 or a Wii, and after careful consideration I have decided to invest in a 360. There are just NO really spectacular games coming out in the next year or so that I would spend 300 dollars or more on to play. I think the concept for the wii-mote is ingenious and promising, but I think that developers are beginning to see the lack of juice that is present in the 360 and the PS3 is a bit of a setback. My two cents.
