Gary McKinnon extradition fully justified?

Was reading about Gary McKinnon and his fight to stop his extradition to what can only turn out to be a very biased prosecution in another country. He has a lot of online support and I was completely behind his campaign until I found a quote today.
When speaking about looking for UFO evidence (which made up a large part of his excuse for hacking the machines in the first place.) he was to have firstly said “that he found some circumstantial evidence online to back his claims, including what he said are photos with what he speculated were alien spacecraft airbrushed out of the picture.” which is all well and good. But then when I read this “the photos in question were too large to download to his own computer.” I could only roll around on the floor laughing.
So I’m kind of guessing he therefore was seeing these pictures on his screen via some form of remote desktop. So why did he need to download them? has he not heard of screenshots? am afraid for someone who is meant to be technical the argument doesnt add up and for me it then throws a very large log into his argument for what he was doing and why.
